El Nayar
For a hungry UMBC student on the go, what better place is there to hit up for food than Fredrick Road in Catonsville? There are so many good restaurants up and down that road that add a little personality to that town. Yes, I’m from Catonsville, and I know that I am biased. But regardless – I walked into a Mexican restaurant the other day for lunch in between my summer classes.
El Nayar is a little Mexican restaurant on Fredrick Road across from the old Record and Tape Traders. I have been to this place three times now and every time I have been there I have never had to wait to get a seat or to give my order for take out. This place is a seat yourself and your server will be with your shortly kind of a place. The service is always fast and well appreciated by customers. Speaking as someone who is in the restaurant business, I know how important providing fast service is.
I have ordered a few things off of their menu, always something new every time I go. This past visit, I ordered their quesadilla and in no time at all it was sitting in front of me. I have always enjoyed fresh food, and for other people out there that enjoy fresh food as well, this is your kind of place to eat. There were zero preservatives in my quesadilla and with every bite I had the taste of tomatoes, chicken and cheese. To make matters all the better, they give you a side dish of sour cream and guacamole. Let’s just say that if you enjoy dipping your food as much as I do, then this excitement should get you to at least get you to remember this restaurant.
Hope you enjoy your meal!

Totally agree with you, the food is always, always, always fresh, and even those folks with the most sensitive stomachs will always walk away happy! The only thing missing, I’d say, is good ol’ “horchata” (sp?) – a cold, frothy and yummy Mexican rice drink that’s perfect with any dish. In lieu, they’ve got “Jarritos” brand drinks – pinapple is my favorite.
A great place for both vegetarians and carnivores to meet and eat together!
