Ice Cream at True Grits

One of my favorite additions to the Dining Hall (or should I say True Grits now?) is their new selections of ice cream. They now have flavors such as birthday cake, strawberry shortcake and bubble gum! Yes, True Grits is a great place to eat when you are incredibly hungry, with its buffet style setting, but it is also a place to get creative with the food you eat. For one person, waffles may be breakfast food, but for others it can be made into a dessert. I know it definitely is for me!
With their amazing new ice cream flavors, I can now have different flavored ice cream complementing the delicious waffle fresh out of the waffle maker.

In the picture above, I’ve got my waffle with strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, finished off with nuts on top. I went simple for my very first ice cream waffle but will definitely experiment with other ice cream flavors throughout the school year.

Aside from making my very own waffle ice cream, I’ve also experimented with making milkshakes with the various dessert foods in True Grits. All you need is a milkshake cup, some ice cream, a little bit of milk (skim, 2%, whole, soy milk… True Grits has it all), and maybe a chunk of brownie or a cookie to add an even richer flavor. Put everything in that cup, mix it up and you have got your self-made milkshake to your liking.

There are so many different ways to be creative with the new selection of ice cream in True Grits besides putting it in a cone. Be creative and take advantage of this buffet style dining hall for one small fee (depending on which meal zone you go to)! It will definitely help you avoid getting bored of eating at the same location over and over again.

What a great idea! I’ll be sure to combine waffles and ice-cream the next time I go to the Dining Hall!
