Flat Tuesdays
There is a place on UMBC’s campus that is underappreciated by most students; I am talking of course of Flat Tuesdays. Flat Tuesdays, for those of you who do not know, is the bar that is located on the second floor of the commons (same floor as the game room and the SGA offices). If you are of age to drink, then I highly recommend that you stop in and enjoy a beer. It is a great place for students to come together, especially on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm. Every Wednesday night you can find a crowd of people (teams of seven or less) crammed into Flat Tuesdays to partake in Trivia.
Needless to say, Flat Tuesdays is a great place to enjoy company of friends and to meet new and interesting people. The management and staff of Flat Tuesday teaches students to respect the consumption of alcohol and help students broaden their vocabulary of beer. At this bar you will not find the default beers such as Miller Lite, Bud Light, Corana, or Sam Adams. Instead, your pallet will be hit with the refreshing taste of the Clipper City line. Quality beers such as Loose Cannon (ABV: 7.25%), Peg Leg Stout (ABV: 8.0%), Red Sky at Night (ABV: 7.25%), MarzHon (ABV: 5.25%), Pale Ale (ABV: 4.9%), McHenry (ABV: 4.5%), and my favorite, Holy Sheet (ABV: 9.0%). Flat Tuesday does offer other Clipper City beers, but I am only mentioning the popular ones. Beers are relative cheep, only $3.50 at happy hour and $4.00 after happy hour. While you’re up at the bar, ask about the Mug Club; it is an investment worth investing in.
Have I mentioned that Flat Tuesdays is located on the Second floor of the commons? Oh wait, I did! This means that if you are a resident then there IS a fun place on campus for you to enjoy alcohol without having to drive! Flat Tuesdays provides a fun environment, a place to meet people, and cheap yet quality alcohol.
Another cool aspect of this bar is there are a lot of grad students, professors, and faculty members that are regulars. I personally have sat down with professors of this University (some of which I was enrolled in their class) and enjoyed a beer with them. Last year Freeman Hrabowski bought me a beer after another UMBC Men’s Basketball victory. How cool is that!
Flat Tuesdays only sells beer and wine, sorry no liquor. At this bar they want students to remember the fun they had. So if you are 21 or over, please come on up, drop that heavy book bag you’ve been lugging around, and enjoy a beer with us.
