One World Cafe
This is my first post for UMBCeats and I’m really excited to be a part of the team! After reading the blog a bit, I wanted to write from a new perspective that would be beneficial to students that don’t eat meat and/or dairy for moral, religious, or other reasons. It’s difficult to find food at times when you have a strict diet, but it’s definitely sustainable and possible if you know where to look. The city of Baltimore is actually a great place to be vegan or vegetarian. My parent’s house is right outside of the city and I’ve spent the past few summers working downtown so hopefully I can share some of my knowledge!
One of my favorite spots to eat in Baltimore City is One World Café, near Johns Hopkins University and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Located on 100 W. University Parkway, it’s situated at a location near many of the city’s most popular concert venues and cultural districts. It’s constantly rated the best place to eat if you’re vegan or vegetarian, most likely because it never disappoints and offers many meat-, dairy-, and/or gluten-free options. With a HUGE selection of vegan breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and drinks, One World has something to suit every taste.
Here’s my mother, Greta, during brunch-time at One World. Their brunch menu is excellent and definitely has something delicious for everyone.
My staple is usually the Philly Cheese Steak-less (mmmmm, I’m craving it just thinking about it – it’s one of the most popular items on the menu) and a vegan carrot-cake cupcake. I usually get the bean dip too if I’m with friends. Other things I love to try include the not-dogs, vegan meatball subs, vegan pancakes, soy cheese quesadillas, and bean burritos.
It’s a really awesome place to relax with friends and share a cup of coffee or visit when you’re feeling extra hungry. The staff is extremely nice, welcoming, and accommodating and I’ve never been disappointed. There are always new specials to try, delicious brunch menus, and yummy seasonal desserts to enjoy, all at very reasonable prices. For example, a red-velvet cupcake baked to perfection is just one of the many sweets One World offers daily:
There is another yummy spot to get vegan and vegetarian food at 800 St. Paul St. in Mt. Vernon, near the Walter’s Art Museum. The place is called Red Emma’s.
another good veggie place closer to campus is sarah and desmonds vegetarian cafe in ellciott city.
another slightly closer option is liquid earth in fell’s point.
plus the yabba pot offers communal/african themed vegan food.

I love Red Emma’s! I’ve been getting food there too for the past few years and now with the advent of the Tofurkey Melt, I always have to get something. I haven’t checked out Sarah Desmond’s yet, but I’ve heard really good things as well!
I love how your mother is also clutching a bottle of Van Gogh vodka.
They recycle the bottles and use them for syrup! Haha.
