Need a good value eat early in the morning on campus?

November 20, 2009

One morning, after my commute to UMBC, I went up to the lounge next to the bookstore where I was greeted by my friend, Kwame. On this particular morning, he had a breakfast meal that seemed so good, it looked as if he had cooked it in his dorm and then brought it over, so I asked him, “Where did you get that meal?” His reply shocked me. “Upstairs, at the grill,” he said. Naturally I ran upstairs to get myself this plate of deliciousness.

For a shocking $4.75, the Breakfast Platter got me the following: scrambled eggs with cheese, tater tots, 2 cut slices of toast, bacon (or you can get sausage), and a drink. When I got back to my friend, I started eating immediately. My friend suggested that I put my eggs in the toast to make an egg sandwich. I don’t lie when I say this; the first bite out of the egg sandwich was just as amazing as the last bite. The bacon was as good as what you could get at any restaurant serving breakfast 24/7. Not to mention the tater tots- I could not stop eating them. I almost went back to get another side of tater tots because they were that good.

One side note about the Grill’s breakfast; what you get depends on who is cashiering. When I first went I got everything mentioned above. Second time, I got only eggs and bacon, and I was charged around $4.96 and was told I normally cannot buy the meal; but that problem hasn’t reoccurred.

Also, if you hate waiting in line for food, here is a pointer to save time. Go to the Yum Shoppe, buy one of their subs, then go to the grill and fill it with their condiments and/or pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, or my favorite, some good ol’ Old Bay. It takes a bit of time walking from the Yum Shoppe to the grill, but it saves you the hassle of waiting in line.

Until next time,

So does that 4 dollar plus change include the cost of that sub you have to buy in the yum shop?
